About Us

The Congregational Church (or chapel) at Steeple Bumpstead was established more than 250 years ago. We are an independent church, not belonging to a denomination, but affiliated to the Congregational Federation .

Our ancient and beautiful building is rich in tradition, and work in recent years has also updated the premises significantly. The church is well equipped for amplified, modern music and sung worship.

The church meets to pray and worship together, to celebrate and work together, to learn about the Bible and to make the Christian faith known widely.

Everybody is welcome! Come along, to ask questions, to make friends and to get involved in community activities. Sunday services are at 10.30am. The church is available for weddings and funerals and to celebrate the birth of a child.

Have a look around this website for more information, or do get in touch with us to talk.

The church is self-financing. Membership is open to everybody and the church members govern the life of the church. However, plenty of people attend with us but choose not to come into membership.

The minister is employed directly by the church; other leaders are elected by the church members and serve voluntarily. Together, the minister and other elected leaders are the charity trustees for the church.
